Intro Jumpstart London

Thanks for enquiring with us. As requested, here is some info about our Jumpstart London program.

This email is long, but you will find just about everything you need to know about the program costs, inclusions and application process.

We have divided the info into 4 parts Guaranteed Housing and AccommodationEmploymentF.A.Q.’sVideo Playlist (How does it work)

Basic overview:

The Jumpstart London program provides everything you need to get started in London. This program includes a flexible travel pre-departure job guarantee, and we will help you lock in flexible travel accommodation too. We can also help with your U.K. working holiday visa application if you’d like assistance. Once you’re here in London, you’ll have an orientation with our London office to set up everything you need to tick off before you start living & working in the U.K. You’ll get assistance setting up your U.K. bank account, National Insurance (tax) number and help with registering with your closest G.P. for your free healthcare services. On arrival, you’ll have a walking tour of the London sites, an arrival week pub crawl to meet other TWHC members, and other social events. You can switch between our jobs and different types of accommodation as often as you’d like (while your visa is still valid)

Accommodation F.A.Q.’s:

How often can I travel? Through the Jumpstart London Program, we encourage you to travel as much as possible and give you the freedom to do so year-round as often as you like. If you plan on travelling to Europe or beyond, please give our U.K. Team as much notice as possible so we can help you get back into the accommodation when you get back.

Can I decide where I live? Of course! Our U.K. team have all lived in London before (some even in our houses!) and can tell you about our properties and options to help you make the best choice. Once you’re here in the U.K., if your accommodation preferences change, just let us know, and we can help you make a room switch.

What are the Lease Terms of my accommodation? At TWHC, we understand you want to make the most of your working holiday and travel as often as possible! That’s why we don’t believe in any long-term lock-in leases – most U.K. rental agencies require you to sign a 6-month or 12-month minimum lease. Our leases are all travel flexible with 1 – 2 week notice periods (depending on whether you opt for Shared Housing or the Dormitory/Studio Style accommodations)Once you have moved into your property and paid your move-in costs, your rent will be periodic and ongoing, and you can live there indefinitely. At any point, if you want to move out and go travelling, it will only ever be a 1- or 2-week notice period for you to move out.If you return to London after travel, we only need 21 days’ notice to get you back into a property.

This means you can travel rent-free (as often as you like!), knowing you’ll always have London accommodation guaranteed on your return!

PART 2: GUARANTEED JOB & ADDITIONAL EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT

Our jobs are split into two sections, the pre-departure job guarantees (travel flexible jobs) and the additional job opportunities (minimum 3-6 months commitment required)

You will receive a pre-departure job offer with Jumpstart London or your money back! This is a guaranteed job offer – and ongoing shift bookings for as long as your visa is valid. The job guarantee we offer pre-departure is designed to give maximum flexibility so you can live, work and travel easily (you are heading to the U.K. for a working holiday, after all!)

With Jumpstart London, you can expect the following:A guaranteed job offer pre-departure Competitive industry wages £11.95 – £16.00 per hour Central London locations Travel as frequently as you like, with no restrictions Make yourself available or unavailable for work as often as you like without the worry of losing your positionWhat jobs are part of the pre-departure job guarantee? Our job guarantees have been carefully selected to help you avoid common mishaps. We provide jobs with both flexibility & security, take time off when you want, but get shifts when you need them.

OPTION 1LONDON HOTEL & EVENTS HOSPITALITY WORKWhat I will do: Various jobs to ensure the event runs smoothly. You will be asked to help with serving, catering, bartending and bar assist, lighting, table set up, cloakroom, after-parties and more. There’s never a dull moment!

OPTION 2: OUTDOOR EVENTS LABOUR CREWING What will I be doing: One day, you could be unloading a truck; the next, a full day’s work at a racecourse. You will be helping with the lights, sound, set departments, and general after-event cleanups. We also do lots of T.V. sets and stage setups. Great fun!

OPTION 3: GENERAL LABOURINGWhat will I be doing: General labouring jobs across Central London. This is a Monday-to-Friday job, so if you are not keen on evening and weekend work, this is the one for you.

Important dates – Job guaranteesJanuary – blocked out; we do not have any partners offering job guarantees to arrivals for January. However, if you do want to arrive in January, you can move into the accommodation and enjoy your time in London; work commences in early February.

February – Indoor events and general labour work will begin and steadily increase. There is no work available for new arrivals in outdoor events labour jobs; if you’re arriving in February, you should look at hospitality and general labour work. March – Indoor events, And general labour will be at a full time work load. However, outdoor events, crewing training, and induction will only commence in the last week of March.July – The indoor events work will slow down around the last 2 weeks. The British have their big summer holiday break from the last 2 weeks of July to the end of August. (We recommend you use the same months to travel like everyone else)August – Indoor events will slow down, and we do not offer job guarantees in August for indoor and Hospitality events work. Outdoor events & crewing and general labour work are still on. The rule of thumb is to only arrive at the start of the holiday period if you seek employment in corporate environments. Temping agencies, Teaching agencies and corporate events are at their lowest. If you are arriving in August, you should consider a position with a 3 to 4-month commitment period. However, These positions are offered based on an interview outcome and, therefore, cannot be guaranteed. December –  All work available on the Jumpstart London, indoor and outdoor events, and labour work will slow down towards the second last week of December. Very few of our partners would be looking to hire new starters in December; most will pre-hire a few months in advance for staff that is needed over the Christmas break, You are better off arriving at the end of January/Early February.

We recommend something other than December or January for arrival months; if you need to start work immediately.

Accommodation availability, on the other hand, heaps of rooms become available over the Christmas break as a lot of people travel or head home for Xmas.

What else do we have for you in addition to this? SEE FULL GUIDE

PART 3: F.A.Q.’s

Can I book with my friend or my partner?Of course! But it is essential to remember. You must be flexible on arrival for groups with 3, 4 or 5 friends travelling together. Sometimes, you share with others until notices have been handed in for us to place your group in one room. Twins are the most popular configuration, triple share and four beds also, but it may take a few weeks to shuffle people around for the room to become yours.

A little tip, coupling together will be placed on the priority list for Shared Housing in Fulham or East London. We recommend couples stay at East London hotel accommodation, there are great couple’s rooms with ensuite bathrooms.

Friends travelling together are best suited for our zone one accommodation; we can provide housing with single beds in a room. Looking for a room to rent that you can share with your friend is challenging outside of the program when researching rooms to rent online in London, you will find double beds, not twin share.

Can I leave the job and stay in my accommodation?

Absolutely! The London program offers a job guarantee for your arrival, and a room guarantee is a separate entity. And your employment and your accommodation on the Jumpstart London are not attached (Unlike Pub Jobs or live-in Hotel positions). Our accommodation team and employment team are two entirely different departments. You’re welcome to leave the accommodation and keep the job and vice versa.

Am I locked into any contracts? For the accommodation, you will have a minimum two weeks stay on arrival, with a week’s notice period thereafter. For your job guarantee, indoor events, outdoor events and general labour shifts are allocated to you based on your requests. You have the opportunity to work as little or as much as needed.London job and accommodation configurations for your arrival are super flexible; this allows you to land on your feet and start working. If you see something that you think is better suited to it, you can leave without losing huge bonds or deposits. How is the room guaranteed? We have an arrangement with an accommodation provider to allocate 250 beds, allocated to The Working Holiday Club. We allocate 15 beds (Max) to new arrivals every week.During the initial application phase with The Working Holiday Club, we will need your estimated arrival date and check that against the number of spots available for that week. And if you are booking within 60 days of your departure date, we can provide you with the exact configuration of the room available. For example, the bed in a twin share room, a single room, or a double room for partners. You always get an email with the exact availability for your arrival date, and a link to make a deposit payment to lock in the room and secure it is guaranteed. If you are making an inquiry or an application and your travel dates are more than 60 days, for example travelling in 3 to 4 months, we will allocate one of our 15 spots to you, and approximately 60 days before your date, the accommodation team will provide a list of the exact rooms available which you can lock in. Our accommodate team in London manage multiple properties from zone one shared rooms to studio flats and hotel rooms and over 50 rooms in Shared Housing. Our guarantee is for you to have priority for one of our accommodation types when you arrive in London,  If you find the accommodation we have arranged for your arrival is not 100% suitable for you. You have an accommodation support team to contact and ask for any availabilities in one of the other rooms. However, If you have accepted a rental agreement with one of our partners; you will need to adhere to the terms and conditions.

What if my travel date or plans change?

In most cases, it won’t be a problem at all. If you give us at least 21 days’ notice, we can postpone your Jumpstart London program until you are ready to travel. However, conditions may apply if your Working Holiday visa has already been approved.

When should I apply? Our  Jumpstart London program runs year-round!

Block out periods, and arrival dates to avoid:

If you want to arrive in London and start work immediately, these dates are to avoid. During the Summer and Easter break weeks as below, you will receive a reduced work schedule; however, if you are arriving in the periods below, you can still move into your accommodation and enjoy some free time exploring London. Note: These dates only apply to flexible contract jobs – our additional employment opportunities have work all year round.22nd of December to the 15th of January (Xmas & New Years Holiday)End of July & August (Summer Break)First two weeks of April (Easter Break)

How does the booking system work?

We have a fixed number of arrivals we can accept over one year. The arrival numbers are divided into 12 months and between four and five weeks per month. When you join Jumpstart London and you pay your program fee one allocation is attached to your name. At the beginning of the application process, we ask you to select an estimated arrival month, with the option to change this as frequently as you need. All of your documentation and emails will always include a form that says Change my arrival dates making it easier for you to communicate and update your details with us.
