As a Bartender you will be responsible for providing a welcoming atmosphere to all guests, while preparing beverages in a timely manner. Successful applicants will be required to follow all BC liquor laws, and to participate in the daily ID pledge – stating that you will ask for two pieces of identification from anyone who looks under 40 who is asking for alcohol.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Preparing all beverages in a timely and efficient manner
- Greeting and serving guests at the bar in a professional, timely and friendly manner, building rapport by asking questions and initiating conversation whilst working through any dockets and/or clean up
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the full range of beer/spirits/wines and their locations within the bar to ensure efficient service
- Maintaining full knowledge of the menu, including daily features, specials and beverages
- Taking guest orders, entering orders accurately into the POS, and expediting orders from the kitchen in a presentable and timely manner according to the sequence of service
- Using suggestive selling techniques
- Processing payment for food and beverage items and providing change to guests
- Working closely with fellow employees to ensure smooth, fast and friendly service at all times
- Ensuring the bar is fully stocked at all times (including alcohol, garnishes, glassware etc.), and that all liquors are organized and presented to look visually appealing
- Advising Servers and Supervisors of any unavailable beverage item/s, keeping an ongoing list of items that are running low to assist with the ordering process
- Ensuring all bar condiments and garnishes remain fresh (e.g. olives, lemons, limes, oranges, cherries, all juices, simple syrup, grenadine, mint, berries etc.)
- Ensuring the bar area is always kept clean with counters wiped, floors swept and mopped, sinks and dishwashers cleaned, and garbage and recycling removed as needed
- Ensuring the freshness of wines and other bottled products by ensuring only one bottle of each product is open at any time
- Washing, polishing and putting away glassware
- Keeping an accurate record of spillage on a daily basis, and submitting this report at the end of each shift for inventory purposes
- Balancing cash floats and sales at the end of the day
- Informing a Supervisor you refuse to serve someone alcohol due to intoxication or failure to produce ID, and keeping the refusal of service log up to date
Position requirements/skills:
- Must have a valid Serving it Right Certificate or equivalent by the first day of employment
- Understanding of Duty of Care as it relates to the responsible service of alcohol
- Minimum three years’ experience working as a bartender
- Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
- Must be organized and punctual, reporting for work on time and ready to work
- Experience using POS systems
- Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekend and holidays – Bartenders may be required to work overtime during busy periods
- Must maintain a high standard of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing the correct uniform/footwear and nametag at all times while on shift
- Knowledge of SWP, SJP and WHMIS considered an asset
Physical demands:
- Spend significant portion of time working standing and walking
- Lift up to 50lbs multiple times a day
