Housing:

As Cypress is located within a provincial park, there is unfortunately no accommodation on the mountain. We are just a short 15-20min drive from both North & West Vancouver. The majority of our team finds accommodation in North Vancouver or downtown Vancouver. If looking in North Vancouver, a search of the ‘Lower Lonsdale Area’ will make living and commuting to the mountain convenient as the shuttle bus picks up in front of the Lonsdale Quay Market. Resources to look for accommodation include craigslist, Kijiji, Airbnb, Vrbo, and multiple Facebook groups. Transportation to and from the mountain is via Cypress Bowl Road (a 15km road from the highway exit).

We always recommend vehicles be equipped with good winter tires (ask about the ‘flash you pass program’ for discounts on tires. Cypress Coachlines is a private company that offers a shuttle service from Vancouver and North Vancouver (the most frequent service is from North Vancouver). This service is FREE for our Team when traveling to/from scheduled shifts! When riding the bus for fun or on a day off to ‘play’ in the snow, there is a discounted Cypress Team rate, payable to the driver.

  • Staff Housing: No staff housing – all staff sources their own accommodation in Vancouver as it is on 20 mins from North & West Vancouver.

  • Nightlife: Lots of nightlife and extracurricular options as this resort is just 30min drive from downtown Vancouver.

  • Aussie saturation: The saturation of Aussies is moderate.

  • Temperature: Given the location of this resort to the west coast, this is one of the warmest resorts, rarely suffering really cold temps (anything below -20 usually only lasts for a couple of weeks).

  • Job Roles available: Cypress has a range of outdoor and indoor roles. Lift operations, base area operations (snow clearing, parking & cleaning), retail, rentals, guest services, various food & beverage both back and front of house, etc. The range of roles on offer changes annually due to the amount of returning staff.

  • Career progression: For those looking to climb the management ladder, you will need to stick around for back-to-back seasons.

  • Reciprocal pass options: Not at this time. This can change from season to season.

  • Location: Cypress Mountain is 30mins drive from downtown Vancouver.

  • Ongoing employment: The TWHC will assist with your first season’s contract. The ball is in your court – we help you get the job, but you need to work hard to keep it. Ongoing extensions of contracts are based on seasonal performance and the determination of management. If in doubt – ask your manager. Cypress closes for the Summer months. If you have taken a year’s lease in a city, touch base with Grouse Mountain as they run summer operations and are always looking for trained & experienced staff.

  • Why go here? This location offers the opportunity to work in a ski resort but live in a beautiful city. Not many locations worldwide can offer this situation. If you already have accommodation sorted in Vancouver this is a great option for you.

  • Why avoid this place? This resort doesn’t offer staff housing. So rolling up to a foreign country/city and having to find accommodation is super daunting. It is doable…but for your first season, we would recommend choosing an employer that offers the dual security of employment and accommodation. As this is a smaller resort closer to the city the amount of snowfall can sometimes be much less than in resorts further into the interior or up at Whistler.
