Gondola Operators are in a highly visible role and provide an outstanding experience for guests via the safe and efficient operation of the Gondola, the centre of transportation to the Village and Goat’s Eye areas of the Resort. Operators are focused on guest safety, efficiency, and being approachable and courteous always towards all users of the Gondola. Gondola Operators report to the Gondola Operations Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor, and under the guidance of Forepersons and Maintenance. They liaise frequently with other departments e.g. Gondola Maintenance, Warehouse and Dispatch.

Job Functions:

  • Constant monitoring of guests and designated lift system.
  • Engaging in and assessing guest needs and expectations, and modifying operations as required while adhering to operating procedures e.g. slowing, stopping, end of operations.
  • Scanning and checking tickets and passes ensuring appropriate ticket or pass is used.
  • Provide an outstanding guest experience by directing guests on and off the Gondola in a safe, efficient manner.

Administrative and Reporting Responsibilities:

  • Designated daily checks, assigned logs and checklists
  • Daily lift reports, freight logging
  • Changing weather, unusual operating conditions
  • Timely and accurate incident reporting and deficiencies reporting to appropriate departments/personnel.

Other duties may be requested and assigned from time to time.

Experience/Requirements:

  • Outgoing, positive, social and friendly attitude.
  • Prepared to work flexible schedules (weekends, holidays, nights).
  • Prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions (appropriate footwear, under garments, gloves, etc.)
  • Calm under pressure and patient.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to ski or snowboard is an asset but not required. Skiing or snowboarding for work requires completion of a competency test, skiing or riding professionally and is restricted to designated runs.
  • Skiing or snowboarding equipment used for work must be in good operating condition and meet Sunshine Village Equipment requirements and may be tested throughout the season.
  • Maintain professional conduct when in uniform on or off duty.
  • Effectively provide support and assistance to co-workers.
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings and training.
  • Effectively and professionally liaise and communicate with others.
  • Must be neat, alert, punctual and dependable.
  • Ensure all company policies and health and safety measures are followed while on site.

Additional Considerations:

  •  Employees must always be of sound mind, exhibit good judgment, and report to work fit for duty.
  • This position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time, constant trunk rotation, frequent lifting, pushing/pulling of ski, snowboard, freight and other equipment also removal of snow and ice (up to 30 kg).
  • This role operates machinery and works around moving equipment. o Working in an alpine environment.
  • Required uniform pieces (liner, jacket, pants, toque) are provided.
