The Prep/Short Order Cook is responsible for food preparation in a high-paced, busy kitchen. Successful candidates will also be required to perform a number of kitchen activities including general cleaning duties, dishwashing, storing food and supplies.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of recipes, procedures and plating for all menu, special and promo items
- Preparing grill/char grill/salad/sandwich/entrée items to recipe or special order
- Meeting timing standards
- Coordinating with others and assisting coworkers as needed
- Working cooperatively with front of house staff to respond to guest needs
- Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, safety and food safety throughout the shift
- Stocktaking, cleaning, and opening and closing tasks
- Assisting with any other duties designated by a Manager or the kitchen leader
- Ensuring areas of responsibility are well-stocked and guest-ready
Position requirements/skills:
- BC Food Safe 1 (or equivalent)
- Previous kitchen experience
- Good communication skills
- Well organized, shows a sense of urgency
- Ability to track multiple orders and multi-task
- Works well under pressure
- Team player, works productively with others
- Understanding of food safe practices
Physical demands:
- Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours in length
- Ability to lift 11kg (25lbs) regularly
- Must be able to push and pull equipment of various sizes and weights
- Must be able to kneel, bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill tasks
- Requires grasping, standing, walking, repetitive motions, hearing ability and visual acuity
