As a Server at The Woods you will be responsible for offering professional and friendly service to all guests in a restaurant setting, while providing expert knowledge of the full food and beverage menu. Servers are required to follow the sequence of service to provide consistent and efficient service to all guests.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Following BC liquor laws and signing the ID pledge daily, stating that you will ask for two pieces of identification from anyone who looks under 40 before serving alcohol – no exceptions
- Greeting guests in a professional, friendly and timely manner, and building rapport by asking questions and initiating conversation
- Maintaining full knowledge of the menu including daily features and beverages
- Taking guest orders, ringing them though correctly, and expediting the orders from the kitchen in a presentable and timely manner according to the sequence of service (up to a ten table section)
- Assisting other servers in the clearing/resetting/running of food as needed
- Offering suggestions to guests by using suggestive selling techniques
- Ensuring all areas of the restaurant are clean and presentable at all times
- Maintaining excellent communication with all team members to ensure quality service
- Performing all side work duties as assigned
- Clearing tables promptly when guests have completed their meals or beverages
- Responding to guests who are dissatisfied and notifying a Manager as soon as possible if you cannot resolve the issue
- Following opening, closing and daily ongoing procedures and checklists
- Reporting for work on time
- Maintaining a high standard of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing the correct uniform/footwear and name tag while working
Position requirements/skills:
- Must have a valid Serving it Right Certificate or equivalent by the first day of employment (dated on or after October 18, 2018)
- Required to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays, and may be required to work overtime
- Three years of experience working as a server in a restaurant setting
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Experience using POS and payment systems
- Experience working with cash floats and balancing end-of-day sales
- Knowledge of SWP, SJP & WHMIS
- Understanding of Duty of Care as it relates to the responsible service of alcohol
Physical demands:
- Spend significant portion of time spent standing and walking.
- Lift up to 50lbs multiple times a day
- Ability to carry trays of beverages and three plates
